Laura Palmer
(1971-1989)
“The angels will return. And when you see the one that's meant to help you, you will weep with joy.”
Everyone knows the tragic story of Laura Palmer---a sad beauty queen---a girl forever 17---the dead girl. However, one of the greatest tragedies to me is that
no one knew the actual Laura, not even her own family and friends. In the original series much of Laura's life is twisted and intertwined with the lives and feelings
of the townspeople. And even within our reality, many garner her as a troublesome coquette girly pop aesthetic to achieve.
But, she was so much more than meets the eye. Laura fought until her final days, and though many nights she laid awake praying for a lifeline---an angel---to rescue her from
her fate, I think we and many of the people who held Laura dear to their dreams and fantasties within the show underestimate the power of Laura, and how she
, in the end, was her own angel and freed herself from the torment of her father and the town, at least that's how I interpret it. Of most of the moments that we see Laura in the movie and the series I think the true happiest we've ever seen her
was at the very end of Fire Walk With Me.
I want to showcase the Laura whose a writer, a lover of poetry and animals, sassy, doesn't like aspargus, loves cream corn, and cherishes the women closest to her like Donna, Maddy, and her mother.
This is not a memorial but rather a tribute to the weak and the powerful Laura who gained her wings to a better life.
